METHOD STATEMENT FOR CLEARING AND GRUBBING

1.Scope:

This work will shall consist of cutting, removing and disposing of all materials. Such as trees, stumps, roots, grass, top organic soil not exceeding 150mm in thickness etc. it includes necessary excavation, backfilling of pits resulting from uprooting of trees and stumps to required compaction, handling. Salvaging and disposal of cleared material. Clearing and grubbing shall be performed in advance   of earth work operation, and accordance with the requirements of MORTH specification.

2. Methods, Tools and Equipment:

a) If the area has thick vegetation/roots/trees, a crawler or pneumatic tyred dozer of adequate capacity may be used for clearance purposes. The dozer shall have ripper attachments for removal of tree stumps etc. as per MORTH

b) Within excavation and fill lines shall be cut to such depth below ground level that in to case these fall within 500 mm of the sub grade.

c) On area beyond these limits, trees and stumps required to be removed as directed by the competent authority.  

d) All branches of trees extending above the roadway shall be trimmed as instruction of the competent authority.  

e) All excavation below the general ground level arising out of the removal of trees, stumps, etc. shall be filled with suitable material and compacted comprehensively so as to make the surface at these parts conform to the surrounding area.

f) Ant-hills both above and below the ground, as are liable to collapse and obstruct free sub soil water flow shall be removed and workings, which may extend to several meters, shall be suitable treated.

3. Disposal of Material:

1) All Material arising from clearing and grubbing operations shall be the property of government and shall be deposited as instruction of the competent authority.  

2) Staking of stumps, boulders, stones etc. shall be done at specified location with all lifts and up to a lead of 1000 m.

3) Unwanted material afterbdozing shall be disposed.  

4. Safety Measures:

·      Care shall be taken while cutting the trees

·      The cutting material shall not disturb the live traffic

·      The cutting crew shall wear PPE·s, reflective jackets

·      The cutting area shall be protected with safety boards and cones

·      Take care of near by passing electrical lines and utilities.

·      Flagmen shall be provided on both side of cutting area to regulate live traffic.
