RENDERING OF “POPOUTS” IN PQC
(PARTIAL DEPTH REPAIR)
Details :
1. Barricade the area to be taken for repair (10 panels at a time).
2. Identify the popout locations by inspecting the pavement surface.
3. Mark these locations using a marker. Small popouts (area upto 6
sq.cm.) which are very close to each other shall be clubbed as one location.
4. The marking shall be done in square or rectangular shape. Irregular
shall be avoided.
5. Mark the saw cut on the periphery of the marking given. This can be
20 mm deep.
6. Chip off the contaminated concrete using a concrete chipper till
sound concrete is exposed.
7. After chipping is done the pit shall be thoroughly cleaned using an
air blower, wire brushed and cleaned again so as to make it free of dust.
8. Apply a coat of DP Bonding Agent or its equivalent (Epoxy based).
9. Mix the epoxy mortar as per the manufacturer’s specification. This mortar should yield the required compressive strength at 24 hours.
10. Fill this mortar into the area which is coated with the bonding agent while the bonding agent is still tacky. This mortar shall be filled in layers of 20-30 mm each and shall be compacted by using a tamping rod (Flat Bottomed).
11. Finish the surface to the level of PQC.
12. Epoxy mortar is self cured for 24 hours. Extreme precaution shall be taken not to allow traffic on the repaired patches for first 24 hours.
13. 3 cubes shall be taken for the days work to check the quality of the mortar used. These specimens can be tested for compressive strength in the site laboratory.
14. Texturing of the repaired portion is not required as the epoxy mortars are necessarily to be finished smooth.
