Removal of Obstruction (electric pole) within carriageway and rectification of the area

Removal of electric pole within carriageway and rectification of the area

The purpose of this methodology is to describe the procedure for uprooting the electric poles and then restoration of the carriageway up to the original level. The above procedure include transportation of poles staking , clearing area , initial compaction, back filling with suitable material, quality control, testing etc.

5.      DETAILS METHODOLOGY

1.   Removal of Pole

The construction work has been carried out keeping electric poles within the construction area. The construction works have reached different stages of the highway embankment. Hence this methodology is a typical one, where the work has reached up to DBM Top Level

·         Remove the various completed layers from DBM layer to Embankment top, using JCB or Excavator for an area 1.5 wide at bottom 4.5m length ( as shown in drawing ) . Increase this area if stay wire is also involved.

·         The excavation is done as shown in the drawing.

·         Up root the pole using hydra with care, so that the pole is uprooted without damage to the pole..

·         In case of unexpected breakage remove the pole portion up to 500mm below embankment top.

·         Cutting of DBM layer in vertical by using Asphalt cutting machine .

·         Transport and stack the removed pole.

2.   Construction of Dismantled portion

·         Clean the debris and fill the hole left due to the uprooting of the pole with sand saturate with water.

·    Step the sides of excavation to a width of 200mm for each lift of 200mm

·         Remove the loose material from the stepped as well as bottom portion.

·         Compact the bottom of the excavated area using a mini vibrating roller to the required compaction.

·         Check the compaction (FDD)

·         Spread, level and compact the sub-grade material (stacked suitable material) in 200mm compacted thickness.

·         Use extra material if necessary compact each layer with 2 tone vibratory roller

·         Check the compaction as required

·         Prepare the stacked GSB material mixing with water  to bring the same to the required moisture content. Spread level and compact the GSB layer. Add extra GSB material if required.

·         Compact GSB layer to the required specification requirement.

·         Prepare the stacked WMM material mixing with water  to bring the same to the required moisture content.

·         Spread 1st layer of WMM manually.

·         Compact the WMM layer with 2 tone vibratory roller.

·         Spread fresh WMM 2nd layer with lines and level with means of leveling equipment.

·         Compact the WMM layer up to the specification requirement with heavy roller.

·         Check the compaction as required

·         Prepare for WMM surface for priming.

·         Do the prime coat as per specification.

·         Leave for the surface for curing as per specification.

·         Do the tack coat as per specification.

·         Lay the DBM with suitable leveling equipment.

The work shall be suitably modified in case of lower layers. Heavy compactors shall be used it sufficient width is available for their operation.

6.                      QUALITY CONTROL.

Field density, OMC, Gradation, Levels and others required tests should be conducted

    and recorded
