Bridge Abutment Construction
This Method Statement is detail the method of Abutment construction including fixing of reinforcement, providing of Formwork and concreting.
ABUTMENT CONSTRUCTION
Reinforcement upto plinth level
The reinforcement work shall be
carried out in two stages as shown in the drawing. The first stage of rebar
work shall be carried out upto +3.000 level and final stage of rebar work shall
be carried out to the top level of bearings. The reinforcement cover shall be
maintained min 75 mm at all sides.
Formwork for Abutment
The formwork for abutment shall be carried out stages in accordance with drawing. The first stage of formwork shall be provided upto +3.00 level and second stage of formwork shall be provide upto bearing plinth level. Each stage of formwork shall be fabricated and joining with Aluminum beams and RMD Soldiers. The top surface of formwork shall be in smooth finish to proceed with waterproofing. The formwork shall be supported by RMD Soldiers and push pull jack at bottom and top. All the formwork internally connected with Tie-rods and whaler beams. And additional supports will be provided by supporting in to pre-cast blocks. The suitable scaffolding shall be carried out around the abutment with safeguards and railings.
Concreting for Abutment
The concrete shall be poured in two-stages by having one construction joint. At the first stage of concrete upto +3.00 levels, i.e. 6 m height above from the top of abutment pile cap. The concrete shall be poured in to equal layers of 400 mm to get sufficient vibration. Abutment concreting shall be poured using 1 No. of concrete pump having boom length of 36/42 m. The concrete pump shall be located as per the drawing. pumps should keep a minimum distance of 10 m away from the pile cap and platform of pump shall be properly compacted. One additional No. of concrete pump shall be located at site as stand by thought the duration of concrete.

SAFETY
Strict
safety rules will be maintained and a safety representative will be present to
monitor all aspects of safety measures as listed below:
§ Toolbox
talk must be given to the operatives prior to the commencement of the work
§ Safe access / exit will be provided for man and machinery with signs and cones.
§ Proper Scaffolding shall be provided to prevent any major injuries falling from the heights.
§ Appropriate PPE shall be issued and used.
§ Work shall be carried out under the supervision of Foreman.
§ Concrete waste material shall be disposed-off from site to designated area.
§ All the machineries shall be checked thoroughly on a daily basis.
§ Appropriate
barricading will be carried surround the concrete pump location.
